Located in Mothithang, Thimphu, this duplex residence reinterprets Bhutanese architectural identity through a contemporary lens. Its defining roof silhouette, deep overhangs, and layered horizontal forms establish a strong architectural presence, while warm timber cladding contrasts with the solidity of the lower façade. The design draws from traditional Bhutanese roof forms and material warmth, translating them into a refined, modern expression without losing their cultural resonance.
Beyond its striking façade, the residence is conceived around the interplay of light, material, and landscape. Generous openings, warm timber interiors, and carefully composed living spaces create a seamless transition between indoor comfort and outdoor tranquillity. Enclosed gardens, textured stone walls, and layered greenery offer privacy while maintaining a connection to the natural setting, shaping a home that balances cultural identity, contemporary living, and a quiet sense of place.
